The Computerized Sewing Machine

Are there other alternatives to a computerized sewing machine?

Everyday people want to buy a new sewing machine, perhaps they want to start sewing or they simply need a new one. However they are not sure which one to choose. Let us have a look at the types of machines there are available so you can make an informed decision.

The Electronic Sewing Machine

Most people who sew have this model, or started with this one. It works with electricity which drives an electrical motor. Its operation is very basic whereby the motor will drive the operation of the needles motion, the bobbin and the feeder. The speed is controlled by a foot pedal, the more you press down on the pedal the faster your motor will drive the needle, bobbin and dog feeder.

This model isn’t bad at all, it performs the very basic functions you would need. If you decide that this is the machine for you then just have a look at the various types you can purchase and have a look at the different features, then you can decide what will work best for you. This is a solid type machine and many people have done well with them.

The Computerized Sewing Machines

These types of machines work the same as an eclectic machine, but they offer much more. These sewing machines offer an array of awesome features. They are operated using a touchpad and LCD screen, and you can download programs from your PC. Everything on the computerized models is pre programmed such as your tension, length, width etc.

Please do not let the name computerized scare you, because they are very easy to operate. If you feel that this is the machine for you then have a look at different models. There are so many you can choose from and a basic computerized machine can cost you as little as $150. Decide what the machine needs to do, then have a look which one meets all your requirement and then get one that fits your budget.

The Overlocker Machines

This machine is certainly not a necessity but a great one to have. What this machine does it finishes off the work very professionally. You can do that on the electric and computerized models as well, however there the zigzag function will have to be used.

The problem is that you will always need an additional sewing machine; you cannot only use an overlocker as its functions are limited. Thus again if you can afford it then it certainly is nice to have, but if you are a beginner then buy a normal sewing machine and if you advance and you feel you want one then go for it. Perhaps if you do sewing for a business it would be advisable to get an overlocker to add that professional touch.

The Manual Sewing Machine

Just because they are operated by turning a handle doesn’t mean that they don’t work well. This machine does not work with electricity. What you have to do is turn a handle which powers the machine. The quality of these models are outstanding. These machines aren’t much in use anymore, but back in the day people had no other option. Time has given us new models which are much easier to operate.

As you can see there are quite a few options. These days most sewers opt for computerized sewing machine, but at the end of the day you have to choose what will be best for you.
